COURTNEY FRANCIS

What is your present state of mind?
Hopeful.

What is your favorite quote?
Of the moment: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

What musician would you most like to see perform in your living room?
Janis Joplin.

What was your childhood nickname? Hodey Dough – somehow this came from the fact that I LOVED cookie dough a lot more than cookies (and still do).

It’s 9pm on a Saturday in Portland.  Where might we find you?
Umm…dancing on a coffee table?

What I do…
Courtney has been the Partnership & Development Director at Social Venture Partners since Fall 2010 after serving as the Associate Director of Development at Saturday Academy, a local educational enrichment organization, for several years. At SVP she feels fortunate to work with an incredible group of smart, audacious people who invest deeply in making a difference in our Portland community. She values the SVP model of “venture philanthropy,” taking a business-minded approach to innovative and effective nonprofits and sharing the hearts, minds, networks and financial resources of our membership to increase our community’s capacity to best serve those in need. Working for SVP and serving on the Levé Board are a perfect intersection of her passions and interests. She is a co-founder and former President of Levé, and past member of the YWCA of Portland’s Leadership Board and Saturday Academy’s BrainGames Board. She is a native Portlander and graduate of UC Santa Barbara. Courtney enjoys travel, reading and the outdoors, especially the mountains and skiing, as well as being involved in her community.
